2005 Softball Season Recap
The Needham Community Softball League played a tournament format in 2005
with fewer teams and games. WNTN struggled through the regular season
with a 2-7 record before coming alive in a first round three games to
one playoff victory over Lenahan. WNTN lost four straight games to Micks
in the championship series while playing competitively. Losses in games
three and four were both by one run.
While the dreaded fly out proved
costly in playoff losses, the 2005 WNTN Softball All*Stars featured some
new talent in outfielders Steve Popper and Lee Caplan and infielders Lou
Fernandez and Mike Rosenberg. Josh Horwitz (.622) had the highest
average, Matt Arkin and Steve Popper led the team in RBI's (17), Mike
McLean's 27 hits led that category and Matt Stein and Lee Caplan topped
everyone in extra base hits with 5.
